The armed conflict in Colombia has left deep scars. The country is still marked by violence and social inequality. Together with our local partner organisations, we support young people’s rights, promote smallholder identity and support sustainable income-generating initiatives for young people.
The district of Aguablanca is one of of the poorest neighborhoods of Cali,Colombia’s third-largest city. Life there is marked by violence, drug trafficking and armed conflict. Many young people join criminal gangs due to the lack of prospects. Together with our partner organisation Paz y Bien, we carry out prevention work to break the break the spiral of violence in Cali, and offer young peoplen, non-violent prospects for the future.
Displacement and land theft are widespread in Colombia. In the department of Antioquia, many farming families are threatened and displaced by armed groups. Together with our partner organisation ACA, we help young smallholders to join forces to combat this displacement. We also strengthen the cultural identity of smallholder families and promote organic farming projects set up by young people.
Colombia is facing significant challenges, including widespread poverty, social inequality and persistent violence. Despite the 2016 peace agreement, the security situation is still iunstable and armed conflicts threaten peace.
