Projects in
Brazil

Many young people in Brazil see no prospects in the countryside and move to the big cities, where violence, especially against young Black people, is very widespread. Together with our local partner organisations, we train young smallholders in agroecological methods and strengthen their identity and their voice to enable them to actively campaign against violence.

Young people in rural areas are focusing on organic farming

In Brazil, young people from smallholder farming families are increasingly losing hope of a future in the countryside and are migrating to the cities. Meanwhile, politicians are promoting agrobusiness, which has serious ecological and social consequences. Together with our partner organisation ASPTA, we train young people in agroecological methods, strengthen their identity and encourage them to help shape policy as active players.

Black youth and political participation

In north-eastern Brazil, young people are exposed to severe violence. Afro-Brazilian young people are often frequently affected. They have a significantly higher risk of being murdered than White young people. Together with our partner organisation CIPÒ, we give Afro-Brazilian young people training in communication and encourage them to stand up for their rights. They then share their knowledge as multipliers.

Information about Brazil

Brazil has an extremely unequal distribution of wealth. Young people of Afro-Brazilian origin in particular are heavily affected by poverty, discrimination, and violence. This has a negative impact on their education opportunities and prospects.
