For many young people in El Salvador, there are hardly any jobs, study places or prospects of earning a regular income. Out of desperation, many of them join criminal gangs, emigrate, or work under exploitative conditions. Together with our partner organisation CORDES, we offer young people a way out of poverty and hopelessness by supporting their income-generating projects through training, support and financial start-up assistance.
Salvadoran society is characterised by machismo. Although violence against women is everyday life and the country has one of the highest feminicide rates in the world, the topic is largely hushed up. Together with our partnerorganisation ‘Leer para Soñar, Sentir y Transformar’, we train young female scholarship holders taking part in a socio-educational programme to recognise gender-based violence (GBV) and identify and question stereotypes.
El Salvador is characterised by violence, crime and a lack of prospects. Murder rates now exceed those during the civil war (1979–1992), making the country one of the most violent in the world.
