Record revenue for sustainable prospects for young people

Media release - terre des hommes schweiz raised almost 10 million francs last year. This is the best financial result in the history of the Swiss development organization. The healthy finances allow terre des hommes schweiz to continue to make a solid contribution to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development for the benefit of young people's prospects. In its new annual report, terre des hommes schweiz shows how young people in Africa, Latin America and Switzerland are bringing about positive change.

"terre des hommes schweiz is healthy and strong. We are sustainably positioned," says Reto Mischler, Head of Communications and Fundraising, on the 2021 financial result.

This is documented in the annual report and detailed annual financial statements for 2021, which the members approved at today's Annual General Meeting in Basel. "The donations from private individuals, organizations and the public sector confirm that We are credible and remain on course," commented Reto Mischler the revenue record.

1.4 million for information and awareness-raising in Switzerland

In 2021, terre des hommes schweiz spent around CHF 1.4 million, or 15 percent of its income, on information and awareness-raising in Switzerland. For example, with a highly acclaimed study on Swiss arms exports to Brazil, "a strong signal for a culture of peace", write Managing Director Franziska Lauper and President Brigitta Gerber in the annual report:

"Together with many other organizations, we have successfully campaigned for a very good, broad-based counter-proposal to the corrective initiative."

Last year, terre des hommes schweiz spent over 5 million Swiss francs, or around 60 percent of its income, on locally based projects in Africa and Latin America.

They act on the three focal points of peace culture, health and sustainable livelihoods for young people and their families.

Climate change in Africa, social division in Latin America

Action is needed, writes program manager Gabriela Wichser in terre des hommes schweiz's annual report on the major obstacles for young people in Mozambique who work in agriculture - the consequences of climate change are particularly evident here.

She is concerned about the "increasing polarization and social division worldwide". "In Latin America, an entire generation of young people sees itself robbed of its prospects for peace and social justice", writes Gabriela Wichser.

"This makes our work all the more important," says Reto MischlerHead of Communications and Fundraising at terre des hommes schweiz.

"The pleasing annual result for 2021 shows terre des hommes schweiz's commitment to the prospects of young people is widely recognized."
