The first projections from the SRF polling studio show: A clear majority of voters in Switzerland approved the bill of February 9, 2020 on discrimination and incitement to hatred based on sexual orientation. People who are discriminated against because of their homosexuality, heterosexuality or bisexuality will now also be protected.
“Switzerland is also sending an important signal internationally”
Together with over 50 non-profit organizations terre des hommes schweiz supported the “Yes to protection from hate” referendum campaign. “The strong Yes to the ban on discrimination is a clear signal for a humane Switzerland,” says Franziska Lauper, Managing Director of terre des hommes schweiz. “We are delighted that a clear majority of voters in Switzerland are of the opinion that all people should have the same protection and the same rights, regardless of their sexual orientation,” says Franziska Lauper: “The Yes vote reinforces our proven commitment to equal treatment and the peaceful coexistence of all people in our country and also sends an important signal internationally.”
