"Thanks to my vegetable garden, we have enough to eat and I have a job."
Nobuhle builds up an existence with her vegetable garden and creates a perspective for herself. She lives in a township in KwaZulu-Natal with her grandmother. Both her parents died of HIV/Aids. She dropped out of school and has since looked after her three younger siblings.
In our courses, she learned how to protect herself against the HI virus and unwanted pregnancies. With a starter kit of seeds and tools, an agricultural course and our support, she started her own garden at the beginning of the Corona pandemic - initially just for self-sufficiency. Today, she already sells considerable quantities of chili peppers, chilies and cabbage on the market. With her earnings, she can already provide for herself and her siblings. In our youth center, she exchanges ideas with other vegetable gardeners and finds support. She is happy to pass on her new knowledge to other young people and encourages them to set up their own small business.
