terre des hommes schweiz, based in Basel, has been legally, financially and organizationally independent of the Terre des hommes Foundation in Lausanne and terre des hommes Suisse in Geneva since 1972. The Swiss journalist Edmond Kaiser founded the aid organization Terre des Hommes in 1960. Differing ideas regarding governance, the focus of development cooperation and the mediation of international adoptions led to a split in 1972. This resulted in three different Terre des Hommes organizations in Switzerland. They are legally, financially and organizationally independent.
