LeMuSiCa sensitizes the public with dance

A wreath of mourning, a street parade and a dance performance in the style of One Billion Rising: the terre des hommes schweiz partner organization LeMuSiCa launched the “16 Days of Action against Violence against Women” on 25 November with these activities. Three more events are to follow.

From November 25 to December 10, the “16 Days of Action against Violence against Women” will take place worldwide. Our partner organization LeMuSiCa from Moçambique (support for girls and young women affected by violence) is also drawing attention to violence against women with various campaigns during these days. In contrast to the situation in Switzerland, LeMuSiCa has to do some groundwork. Although there has been a law against violence against women since 2009 (largely triggered by the persistent work of partner organizations such as LeMuSiCa), it is not worth the paper it is written on. Violence against women is an everyday occurrence and is not even perceived as violence.

For this reason, LeMuSiCa called for a protest on November 25, in which several hundred women and men took part. First, a wreath was laid in the “Square of Heroes” for the women who have been victims of violence. All participants then marched and sang to the “Platz der Unabhängigkeit”, where a
dance performance in the style of One Billion Rising took place (here is a video of One Billion Rising in Basel).
One of four events
Like last year, the action attracted the attention of the media (see two links below) and was reported on. For example, the daily newspaper “Noticias” and state television. This event was just the start of the “16 days against violence against women” campaign week. Three more are to follow.
