Mozambique
Despite being a small contributor to climate change, Mozambique is severely affected by its consequences, particularly cyclones, flooding and drought, which mainly affect smallholder farming families. With our local partner organisation NANA, we train young people and young mothers in sustainable agriculture in order to secure their livelihoods and contribute to climate protection.

Mozambique suffers from severe inequality: over 20 million of its 32 million inhabitants live on the equivalent of less than 2 Swiss francs a day. While there has been economic growth as a result of gas and oil discoveries, only a small minority are benefitting from this. Three quarters of the population subsist on small-scale farming, which is severely affected by extreme natural events such as cyclones and droughts. Our project teaches young people and young mothers sustainable farming methods and vital knowledge about sexual rights and health.
The aim is to contribute to poverty reduction and the development of sustainable agriculture in Mozambique.
In the the last project phase, 1,500 young people and their families, and 3,200 community members benefitted from our projects.
NANA (Núcleo dos Amigos da Natureza e Ambiente) was founded in 1998. terre des hommes schweiz has supported NANA since 2021.
We work in four rural communities in the district of Mocuba (Lissava, Macuane, Magiui and Marracua). The current project phase covers the years 2024–2026 with an annual budget of CHF 85,000.
