We have launched a crowdfunding project for small cinemas in Peru: We would like to raise at least 2500 francs. This money will enable young people to build micro-cinemas in their communities. This enables them to offer affordable entertainment in poor districts and villages, while at the same time promoting social exchange between people and thus strengthening their identity.
In Peru's slums, social cohesion between people and their cultural identity are increasingly being lost. In contrast, young people are involved in the terre des hommes Switzerland partner organisation Chaski. They are building up a network of small cinemas that gives people access to affordable entertainment. In addition, the films shown in each case deal with different aspects of the life of the local population. After the presentation, the films are then discussed with the audience. In this way, the young cinema operators make an important contribution to education in their community. They promote social exchange between people and thus also strengthen their cultural identity.
Films close to the people
The project is made possible in part by the digital revolution. This is because it enables the cost-effective production, duplication and distribution of films. And it allows young people to offer the audience alternatives to the usual large-scale productions. In contrast to these, their productions are oriented towards the everyday life and living conditions of the locals. In this way they offer them true-to-life and good cinema that combines entertainment and education.
Project with basic training
The organization Chaski promotes the establishment of youth groups who want to set up a cinema project together in their community. The young Peruvians receive a comprehensive two-year training in practice and theory. They acquire important basic knowledge about audiovisual means of communication and at the same time produce their own films, which are shown in the microcinemas.
