We have launched a crowdfunding project for small cinemas in Peru: We would like to raise at least CHF 2,500. This money will enable young people to set up micro-cinemas in their communities. They offer affordable entertainment in poor neighborhoods and villages, while at the same time promoting social interaction between people and thus strengthening their identity.
In Peru’s poor districts, social cohesion between people and their cultural identity are increasingly being lost. Young people in the terre des hommes schweiz partner organization Chaski are working to combat this. They are building a network of small cinemas that give people access to affordable entertainment. In addition, the films shown focus on different aspects of the lives of the local population. After the screening, the films are then discussed with the audience. In this way, the young cinema operators make an important contribution to education in their community. They promote social exchange between people and thus also strengthen their cultural identity.
Films close to the people
The project is possible thanks in part to the digital revolution. It enables films to be produced, reproduced and distributed at low cost. And it allows young people to offer audiences alternatives to conventional large-scale productions. In contrast to these, their productions are based on the everyday lives and living conditions of the locals. In this way, they offer them good, true-to-life cinema that combines entertainment and education.
Project with basic training
The Chaski organization promotes the development of youth groups that want to set up a cinema project together in their community. The young Peruvians receive comprehensive two-year training in theory and practice. They acquire important basic knowledge about audiovisual communication tools and at the same time produce their own films, which are shown in the microcinemas.
