After years of pioneering work, particularly in the area of psychosocial support, terre des hommes schweiz has received high marks for its commitment in Tanzania.
Markus Bütler, Program Coordinator Tanzania
terre des hommes schweiz has been active in Tanzania for over 20 years. Much has been achieved during this time. In the last three years in particular, the Tanzania country program has developed successfully: Whereas terre des hommes schweiz supported five projects by various partner organizations in 2009, by the end of 2012 there were eight. Statistically speaking, a good 20,000 beneficiaries, mostly children and young people, were reached in various ways in 2012 alone. Behind this figure lies a multifaceted commitment with a wide variety of stakeholders.
Good grades
In the area of psychosocial support in particular, terre des hommes schweiz has done a lot of pioneering work in cooperation with partner organizations in Tanzania: Milestones in recent years include the solution focussed approach (SFA) initiated by terre des hommes schweiz and the “World in Books” project, which have triggered a promising development dynamic and are now attracting a great deal of international interest.
External evaluations also confirm that the work of terre des hommes schweiz in Tanzania is having an impact – and not least the SDC Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation: It visited terre des hommes schweiz projects in Tanzania in November 2012 and has since attested to the good quality and great relevance of the country program.
