Never before have so many people worldwide been on the run from war and violence. It is often the people most affected who have no way of reaching a safe country. Europe’s isolationism further exacerbates the situation of these people. This is why we support the petition “For safe and legal escape routes to Switzerland”.
Almost 66 million people around the world are on the run. 12 million Syrians alone have lost their homes. The majority of refugees live in degrading conditions in countries that are unable to cope with the large numbers of refugees. Human rights state that all people who are in need of protection and are seeking refuge for themselves and their families have a right to protection of life and limb. They must have the opportunity to apply for asylum in a safe country. However, the escape routes to Europe, including access to a regular asylum application, are becoming increasingly dangerous due to the ever-increasing isolation of Europe.
