His real name is Benedito da Silva, the boy with the number 10, but everyone just calls him Bené. Football is the greatest thing for Bené. The greatest thing of all, apart from the delicious feijoada that his mother prepares.
No matter what Bené does or where he goes, balls accompany him everywhere. He plays with them, he dreams about them. But Bené's family also lives from the balls, they sew four or five of them by hand every day. It is Bené's job to test the balls - only the good ones are sold.
The story takes place in Brazil. Like many children from poorer backgrounds, Bené doesn't go to school because he has to help earn a living for his family. His dream of real football boots and a jersey may never come true. But he plays skillfully in his flip-flops, has his family, his friends and always a good ball.
Who you support with the purchase of this book
Sport plays a major role in all our projects. The game of football in particular is very popular among children and young people all over the world. They gain confidence by playing together, celebrate their successes and feel a sense of belonging. For many, this is not a matter of course; they have learned to keep quiet and not stand out. Trust is the basis of our project work with the young people; only if they feel understood can we work together towards a better future. The donations go to the fund for young people.
If you would like to support young people on a regular basis, take out a sponsorship. You can find more information here:
