The animals are thirsty, there is a lack of water. But the voracious crocodile is lurking in the river and doesn't want to share. It demands an offering to satisfy its hunger. It is clear to the big animals that the sacrifice must be a small animal. Hare is to be caught, but he quickly runs away and takes refuge in a cave.
While searching for Hare, Buffalo surprises the hungry lion, who in turn chases after Buffalo. Buffalo just manages to escape - into the very cave where Hare is sitting. When the animals decide to work together to catch the lion, all that remains is for the lion to flee. And where is the lion hiding ...? Even though Hare, Buffalo and Lion have to fear for their lives, there is a big reconciliation in the end. And thanks to a clever idea from Hare, there is plenty of water for everyone.
Tanzanian artist John Kilaka tells this story about solidarity and cohesion in a fast-paced manner. In his paintings, he savors the colourfulness and richness of form of Tingatinga painting with relish. A real feast for the eyes!
As one of the few aid organizations worldwide, terre des hommes schweiz works primarily with young people. They are no longer children enough to be considered worthy of protection. At the same time, they are not yet grown up enough to be taken seriously by society. They fall between a chair and a bench. Yet they are the future of tomorrow and have the power to initiate decisive change processes. Trust is the basis of our project work with children and young people. Only when they feel understood can we work together to create a better future. Donations from the sale of this book will go to the "Projects for young people" fund.
If you want to support young people in the long term, you can take out a sponsorship. You can find further information here:
