Our topics
In a globalised world, poverty, inequality and environmental degradation are challenges that affect us all. We are particularly committed to helping young people in the Global South who have little access to education, income and health services. Our goal is more self-determination for young people.
terre des hommes schweiz is committed to the protection of human rights, the promotion of a strong civil society and a healthy environment. In line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, we campaign for social justice and bring important issues to the public’s attention. Find out more about our key topics below.
Millions of young people have little access to sex education, contraception and medical care – especially young women in sub-Saharan Africa. Together with our partner organisations, we provide young people with knowledge, safe places to go and medical support.
Global challenges require massive investment in prevention and peace work at various levels. Civil peacebuilding strengthens resilience against future crises. We work towards a peaceful, secure world by empowering young people, promoting non-violent solutions and driving political change.
Worldwide, 71 million young people are unemployed and 156 million live in poverty despite being employed. The ecological crisis and social inequalities are exacerbating these challenges. We give young people access to education and sustainable incomes, and empower them as actors in the ecological transition for a climate-just future.
Climate change is having the biggest impact on those who have contributed to it the least. While the main perpetrators of climate change are doing little to change their lifestyles, people in the Global South are already struggling with the devastating consequences. We are committed to mitigating the negative consequences and we support young people to campaign for environmental protection and sustainable solutions for their future.
Multinational corporations around the world are profiting from globalisation and increasing their profits. However, they often do not take responsibility for the impact of their activities beyond national borders. terre des hommes schweiz is actively committed to ensuring that companies worldwide respect human rights and comply with environmental standards.
Western Sahara has been occupied by Morocco since 1975, making it the last unresolved colonial conflict in Africa. The Saharawis live either in tough conditions in refugee camps or in the occupied territory, where they are subjected to daily human rights violations. We campaign for their rights, support education and youth projects, and raise awareness of this forgotten conflict.
